The first fight in 1973 was a split decision that went to Norton. The second fight, also in 1973, was a split decision in favor of Ali. Going into The Rubber Match, Ali was 52-2 , Norton was 37-3. At the time of the third Ali-Norton bout, the last time a heavyweight champion lost the title by decision was when Max Baer lost a 15-round unanimous decision to Jim Braddock in 1935. The January 1998 issue of Boxing Monthly ranked Ali-Norton III as the 5th most disputed title fight decision in history In Oct. 1976 Ali Stated : "Kenny’s style is too difficult for me. I can’t beat him, and I sure don’t want to fight him again. I honestly thought he beat me in Yankee Stadium, but the judges gave it to me, and I’m grateful to them.” Norton said : "I got robbed. I won 10 but at least 9 rounds." He was so upset never wanted to watch the fight. Years later after his retiring watched first and said : "Boxing went as Ali went. At that time, Ali was boxing. Boxing wins if Ali wins."
